The Practice Links team works to:
- Support community development workers to explore, make sense of and apply their practice experiences
- Generate knowledge about and evidence of community development practice which meets identified needs of practitioners and policymakers
- Influence practice and policy through the sharing of knowledge, practice experience and evidence

Our current Practice Links Programme (2006-07) is focused on three key themes:
- Community leadership and representation
- Cohesion and conflict
- Community development: context and practice
Within each theme we are addressing thorny - but crucial - practice questions.
We organise debates, seminars, produce working papers, facilitate action learning sets and focus groups and visit practitioners in their work settings to learn from their experiences.
We work with community development practitioners, community activists, academics and policymakers.
How do I get involved?
The first step is to have a look at all our themes by clicking above on the one that interests you most.
In relation to these themes, think about what insights you can share from your own practical experience and think about the areas of your practice that would benefit most from other people’s insights and learning. Perhaps there are also areas of your work which you think would benefit other practitioners. Or maybe you just feel that it would be beneficial to join a network with others who often face the same dilemmas and issues in their vocation.
Then click here, and fill out a short, simple registration form, indicating which theme you are most interested in. You will then become part of the Practice Links database and be informed of future activities which will provide you with an opportunity to share your experiences and learn from others.
In your area of interest, we would also encourage you to read what we have done and then ask for your comments which you can send to us via email or post. This is an opportunity not just to share but also to influence policy at a national level. By contributing in this way, Practice Links can identify issues of importance to the field and bring them to the attention of national policy makers.
Regular updates appear on CDF’s website of all our events and if you register on the website, you will be sent, via email, e-flyers of different activities.
